What you say is all true, but the style was not specific to a few cars, the Mercs (not early Mercs, by any means, just old :P) were just the most popular choice in car. What I should have said was the "heyday" of lead filler. The term sled was used much more loosely back then than it is now, it pretty much just meant big, low car. Cool info though, i like your post a lot.Originally posted by Oxer View Postwtf?
"lead sled" reffers to early mercury's with roof chops and completely shaved lines using lead filler... The term "sled" is commonly used when reffering to the sleek lines of 50's - 60's model cars that were overly rounded in form and extremely low to the earth by means of static suspension and in later times airbags.
But there is no era of lead filling, there are still select shops that swear by it.. I wouldn't try to narrow it down to one specific period of time

nice car. I love lincolns. Theres a guy on another forum im on who swapped the body from a 65 with the body of a 2000 towncar. Used the towncar interior, floor, chassis and powertrain. looks slick.

this isnt a lead sled....Originally posted by cobrawannabe View PostCa there be a seperate section for leadsleds? Otherwise, the rest of us will just do nothing but grovel and feel inferior.
For the record, I am currently groveling and feeling inferior. These Continentals make all the other cars on here look so....mortal.
