I have never driven air but I always have the feeling this is more for comfort and looks and less for drivability.

I this still the samen with the newest air rides?

It really depends what you compare it to. Of course you can buy coilovers set up for race tracks that handle better, but compared to the coilovers I've had (KW, Bilstein, Supersport, etc.) air suspension handle as good as or better, I was really testing the suspension on my E92 and I enjoyed driving it up the mountain roads. And air handles small bumps even better than coilovers.

BUT, you have to buy a good management system with 4 air lines. Or else it will handle like shit.

Modern Systems are Performance capable.
I recommend Airlift Performance Struts and 3P/H Management. I love mine and would never go back to coilovers...

I'm going air lift 3P, but haven't decided on struts/bags yet. Not sure if air lift go low enough.

You are correct. Basically because I ended up with almost the same cost as a full air kit. In my mind I get more value for money with air. My lip is already taking a beating with the lowering springs, and it is by far low enough.
