    Update!

Nothing like a perfect Sunday to get to work on your new exhaust tips and finalise your turbo fan mould drawings!

I'm going for a sort of drift pipe/shot gun look with slightly angled up, staggered tips, I'm still new to welding but thankfully I have my brother in law guiding me through the whole thing. Sadly I haven't bought a TIG yet so it's all being done in MIG.. Exhaust will be 2" stainless from the headers back. I'm going to put a flagged section in there so I can take the cat out and put it back in should I ever get defected and need a Vehicle inspection. Still unsure about putting a small muffler in there or something to tone it down a tad as I'm not 100% in love with the sound of straight piped 1.6's ahaha.

My Engineering friend - Alex Ostojic came down to help me out with drawing my turbo fan mould design up in CAD. I originally started drawing the plans in Illustrator with the idea to have them laser cut and welded together in Aluminium but having had a lot of interest in them on Facebook I decided the best way to go about it would be to make a mould and build fans entirely out of carbon fibre. Lighter, stronger, easier to fix, and a hell of a lot sexier in my opinion!
The mould I designed basically allows me to make the fans for any wheels from 15-18" wheels and with lips up to 6" deep. So instead of buying a set online and hoping they fit, we can literally make them to fit your wheels EXACTLY how you want them too.
It sucks that they aren't genuine BBS fans, I know, but finding a set in Australia is verging on impossible and the last set I saw online for sale were $2300USD and before I had even checked my account, they were sold. So this for now is my best and only option!
Don't get mad though, they will not bear any BBS stickers, 100% our own, no reps here

Also here's a small look at my growing pile of parts!

I don't think I mentioned earlier, but in case you are wondering like so many of my friends, why I've got all the parts and they aren't on the car yet? Well I really wanted to make a cool video of my build and try to put the entire thing together in 1 weekend with a bit of a time lapse and so on. It seemed like a really cool idea in my head, whether it works or not is another story!

Plus it's now verging on Winter here and show season is a while away. I'm hoping to have the car together by early October in time for WTAC and 100mm which I've wanted to go to for A LONNNGG time but for whatever reason, have missed out on every year so far. This time I will be ready!

Thanks man I'm really happy with how they came out!
Not sure if I'm 100% happy with the black barrels but they should help keep them looking clean as brake dust and so on would just be far too obvious on white or silver

    Coilovers!

Well it's time for the big reveal!
My beautiful candy red Scale Innovative Series Coilovers!

Also that is one of my new rear camber arms that I unfortunately had to order off eBay because at the time, I couldn't find any Megan Racing ones in stock, or if they were, they wouldn't ship to Australia..
Thankfully, they are mostly just going to be a way for me to make up a jig so I can make my own in the future as these are incredibly heavy and I'm not sure how much I trust them ahaha.

    Something exciting came

SCALE bringing the goods, and trust me, they are absolutely next level gorgeous.
I opened the box and nearly had to order another set just so I could put these on the wall.
They agreed to come on board with my build and I am so glad they did, the level of quality on these coilovers is second to none. And the colour? Phhwooaah.

    More photos to come

    Unfortunate Discoveries

So I decided to finally have a look under the car and see what it was like and if anything had been broken, bent or stripped over the past 26 years..
Unfortunately, a lot of all of the above had occurred..

The top left A arm looked odd compared to the right, so I decided to pull it out and see what was going on.. A solid 4 and a half hours later, it was out, and yes, it was VERY bent. So I threw a quick post up on the local MX5 owners group on Facebook and the next day I was on my way to pick up a whole new front subframe with all the new arms. I figured spares couldn't hurt, if this arm was bent, maybe the rest were too?

A quick comparison of the new straight arm next to the bent one

Yes, that bolt is meant to be straight.. It was far from it and that was after a few hours of me trying to straighten it out with a bender and some heat. THAT is why it took me over 4 hours to get the stupid thing out.

With the arm back in, the assembly went back together and I continued to check over the rest of the front end!

All was pretty good everywhere else, so it looks like it's been in a very small front accident just in that corner and just wasn't repaired very well. Maybe the previous owner mounted a curb or round-about?
I marked out everything I wanted to revisit for the future and threw the car back together, redoing the repairs was a job for another weekend.

    RS Rebuild pt.4

I guess I've kept you all waiting long enough!

    Here they are!

And a quick before & after crop!

Also I may have left out the fact that before I started work on the RS's I actually started designing and building a mock up for a little something, something
I looked for a while for a set of turbo fans but couldn't find any, so I decided to make some myself, perfectly suited to my lips! This eventually evolved into making a full adjustable mould to reproduce turbo fans for ANY size RS or depth lip. But more on that will come later.. here's a quick sneak peek for now!

    RS Rebuild pt.3

Thought I'd give you guys a quick sneak peek at the wheels so far!
As they sit, all lips are drilled, and the wheels are painted. Kate suggested we wait a few days for all the solvents to come out of the paint before we give them a few coats of clear, but I am absolutely loving them!

(sorry for the shakey photo, it was dark and I was excited ahaha)
