  • Project "Baby Benz"

To start it off, I've wanted a 190e for a good while now, yet never bit the bullet and picked one up. My original intentions for a 190e were to find a clean one, lower it, drive it and call it a day. I had hopes of finding a good running 2.6 liter and just leaving it as is. However that was far too easy. After browsing craigslist aimlessly I managed to find a 190e 2.3 with a cracked oil pan or should I say a completely gone oil pan for a price of $500, body was straight interior was alright, had brakes, exhaust, it was going to be a solid running car for a few hunded bucks it was the perfect car! Well a month came by and I hadn't heard from the seller. I left him voicemails, emails, texts didn't manage to get any response until finally he got back to me. After contacting him I went and contacted my shop I order parts from and got a quote for $260 for a new oil pan. However talking to the shop owner(Good friend of mine) he actually knew of this car because he had done all the previous service on it and the owner who cracked the oil panw as his former intern he had fired for basically "not being a good fit" as we'll call it. Turns out he knew the motor was gone. The owner told me he drove it maybe 10 feet, the shop owner said it had been driven 3 miles draining oil yes 3 miles. Long story short. I managed to get it for $50 and free towing to my place thanks to AAA.

Plans have now changed it's time to build a drift car. Obviously the motor has to come out, so why stop there. The interior will be mostly gutted and repainted and I would like to see for a cage to be fit. Suspension will end up being coilovers as I'm not a huge fan of bags especially for the purpose of this vehicle. The motor will be the first thing to come out and should be out by this weekend if I can get some time. I would like to find a 2.6 16v cosworth motor or I may rebuild this 2.3 entirely and add a turbo since really it only needs some new rod bearings. With the expenses saved and basically getting this for free the possibilities are endless. I'll try to keep this thread open as much as possible and I'm open to suggestions as well! Here are some pics of the subject.
