Finally managed to resolve the massive oil leak, half the sump bolts where stripped, so they had to drill them out and install new threads. So no more oil leaks !!!
I actually installed a new steering wheel, was lucky enough to pick up a original MOMO wood wheel from a BMW.
You can also see in the photo that I have been gluing the cracks in the dash so I can take it out and have it wrapped in leather.
So the heater control valve broke where the rubber water pipe connects causing coolant to leak. A google search revealed that a replacement part would cost around R3000 to R4000. Found a post on myE28.com where they explain how to install a manual valve so this is the plan, will need to get a new U shaped hose from BMW first so I have just capped the hoses off for now.
Met a guy the other day who drives a red 525e and he showed me that he installed the front lip from a VR6 golf to his car I decided to do the same over the weekend.
I also repaired some broken plastic bits and respraid them, cleaned up the numberplate by removing the bracket and I closed up the broken fog lights.
All and all a busy weekend, but I am happy with the results, the car looks allot cleaner now.
Really nice to see a fellow South African on here with a build thread. Keep up the good work When are you going to lower her a bit more?
Thanks. I really want to do airride but it is just so expensive to have it installed in ZA. I'm thinking of just getting the springs compressed with new sport shocks for the time being. But every time I have the cash to do it something else comes up. Hopefully soon.
Wow. looks like a lot of time and money has and is going into this thing! Definitely turned this car around. Glad someone is saving these e28's! Car looks super clean now man, hope you enjoy it!
Thanks, it is starting to get there. Still lots to do. But lets rather not talk about the money, cos I might start crying!!

Finally got around to replacing the bonnet heat shield. It was a bitch to do!!! The old one was basically just powder on top of the glue and the glue was a nightmare to get off. The whole thing took about 4 hours to do start to finish and the wife did allot of the work.
I have not updated in a while but have been very busy:
Finally managed to get rid of all the error lights on the car: :clapper:
Replaced the fender blinker with a new smoked on:
Replaced the front head lights with new smoked one from a MK2 Golf. This was a massive pain as I had to cut the VW brackets and the grill to make them fit!!! Had to make brackets to fit the VW bracket to the BMW bracket. Painted it all black so it would look nice. This was quite a few days work for me with my very limited skill and tools, but it came out really good and I am very happy that I can now finally see in the dark.
OLD LIGHTS:
NEW LIGHT BEFORE MOD:
CUTTING VW BRACKET SMALLER:
TEST FITTED:
AFTER I WAS DONE WITH THE PAINT:
THIS IS WHAT THE CAR IS LOOKING LIKE NOW:
Exhaust had a big hole in it so I replaced it partially at powerflow, they also removed the towbar for me.
Had the seats redone with new leather and foam, all the plastic bits have been re-sprayed and the badges have been refurbed. Black leather with red double stitch. The car smells brand new now.
Headliner was redone in black material:
I have also now finally replaced all the water hoses.
So my very very long list of to-do's are at least slowly getting shorter.
