thanks Cubby, I'm building the car for me to the best of my capabilities, I'm not expecting everyone to like it but for me its what I want.

Its clear to everyone that this car isnt going to be complete by the 31st (tomorrow). I'm not massively bothered because these final stages are the bits thats going to make the car stand out even more and give it that real touch of class.
Today consisted of hours upon hours of wet sanding to get the paint ready for a mop/polish to give it that real deep shine. As the sanding is a very boring repetitive job, I stripped the H.I.D's and bought some aero wiper's to fit to break the day up slightly. Was a very productive day, the pic below was to show how it looks with the H.I.D's fitted, I thought I had white sidelight bulbs but I was clearly wrong, they have now been ordered, also ignore the splitter on the floor, the drive in to the garage is very steep and realised at this point that its impossible to reverse the car in without ramps, the plan was to turn the car around and put in back in nose first as I know it goes in that way, that was until it ran out of fuel. I continued sanding and sanding and sent my father down to the garage to get some fuel for me. Every day has some sort of drama. The realistic time scale now for this car to be on the road is towards the end of next week, that will be everything done to the highest possible standard that I can achieve as a novice.

I think people are being too hard on you about the fenders. They're unique, you did an extremely good job molding them to the body and painting the whole car. That is a lot of meticulous work. I think they turned out great, and really look forward to seeing the car all finished.

More progress today, the bonnet and passenger side is now completely wet sanded and ready for polishing. The tuner bolts have turned up so I also did the rest of the suspension and had a little play with test fitting the wheels and setup etc. The front's seem to sit perfectly straight out of the box and look flush with the arches which I am over the moon about. The rears could do with a 5-10mm spacer on but will do for now. I test fitted the front right at the end of the day and forgot to take pics but I have got a pic of the rears straight after the suspension being swapped. After test fitting the rear wheels and putting some weight in the boot it has become apparent that some slight modifications to the rear arch are required to ensure that the tyre wont catch the arch on full travel etc.. another job to add to the list before it leaves the garage. Anyhow , here's the rear's, please bare in mind they haven't settled properly but this setup is almost there, slightly lower, dont fancy ripping any of the arches off over a bump/pothole.




edit: just realised my pics have gone, apparently I've uploaded 2gb worth of photo's in the last 30 days, they will be back working tomorrow.

I'm also from South Wales or S|W those arches would benefit from some chopping but you have the right idea

looks good man! I have to agree with others, the arches do look a little weird now that they have been pointed out, though I never noticed. Good luck with the rest of the build, I want to see these wheels on it.

27.08.13 – 4 Days until Deadline

Managed to get back down to the garage today after the bank holiday. The plan today was to get some more wet sanding done and to get the coilover's put on the car. Managed to get the entire one side of the car sanded and also managed to get front and rear passenger side standard suspension out and coilover's in. Both front and rear suspension springs/shocks were a huge pain to get out, the rear's just didnt want to compress enough to slip out with just 2 spring clamps and the fronts have clearly never been taken off and 18years of driving had made sure these shocks weren't going to come out easily. But, its 50% of the suspension work now done so plan tomorrow is to get some more wet sanding done and get the driver's side all set up. That will then be the last of the mechanical work done

I like what you've done there Ollie, like that a lot, it was so hard trying to get the arches located properly due to poor original moulds and also the fact that this is the first type of body modifications I have ever done, closest I've done to this before was fibreglass repairing a front bumper. I'm hoping that these will work with the fitment correct but if not, It can always be amended. In regards to cracking, I have my belief in these arches , its not just layer's of filler, they have been fibreglassed, fillered, riveted and am pretty confident they will hold out, only time will tell I guess

These are the angles that really throw me off. You're kind of mixing widebody style with flares. You should flow the flares into the body above the moldings and bumpers like the other guy said. OR make the part that goes onto the bumpers and over the moldings a seperate piece and flow it back in in a crisper/less rounded way or continue all the way to the bottom. Also it looks like the top center of the arches aren''t the widest part which looks odd.

Jaze and I were kicking around flare ideas one day so I glassed up this super rough idea. I tried keeping the factory arch line and doing it kind of liberty walk e46 style. If I went through with them I was going to make a hard cut off or a sharp angle back into the bumpers and quarters with seperate pieces for the bumpers (and probably sepearate pieces for the rear doors as well). With a little work I think this idea could be awesome. Hell maybe I'll make some in the future.

Sorry to thread jack just wanted to offer you some more insight. I'm sure your set up will still look pretty good with aggressive fitment. But unfortunately those things are gonna crack like a ma fucka.

In waiting for fitment to be sorted before thinking of adjusting the arches, i dont know how its going to sit until the wheels are on, then adjustments MAY be made. oil can?

I apreciate the hard work in specially because it was made by yourself , but the arches are not my style , maybe some modified oem ones would have been looked better

very poorly arched first i love this thread but then see that you dont make the arches fit and see the crappy fake rims, now it isnt interessting anymore.

Thanks for the input, i can understand this criticism i did toy with tapering it into the body but it didnt look right, i think the only thing i would do to change it would be too apply a add on bit to the front bumper to bring it further down.

so not that anybody asked me, but i think what mr sparkler is saying is that the shape of the arches in relation to the car is off, maybe. so using my superdooper editing skills i stole from a 2 year old i made a pictar to hang on the fridge

looks like you've put a lot of hard work into this, the paint looks great, as someone else said your headed down the MAX car path, but its your car please continue.

Agreed, needs to taper back into the body more imo. but to each his own. Keep going
