I'm going to trying the 315's first since I can pick up a set cheap locally. If they rub then I'll try 295's. Here is Brian Goodwin's car with the flares and 18x10's.

The wheels will be here next week. I decided to get them redrilled rather than run adapters. They were originally 5x120 and I'm having them drilled to 5x114.3. I'm taking the car to the shop to have the flares installed on the last week of this month. I want to be up and running by the 4th of July.

This will be for cruising and autocross/track days if I can pull it off. My goal is to be completely functional. I know for a fact that 18x10's and 295's work fine on track abused NC Miatas, so I'm going to see if I can push that 2" more.

  • Stance With Somebody Who Loves Me: My 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata Stance Build

I'm new to the site, but I have been a wheel addict for quite a while. I don't even know how many sets I've have owned on various cars over the past 12 years. However, I'm getting ready to start my most ambitious project yet.

The car is a 2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata Limited Edition. Stock, it has 17x7 et55 wheels on 205/45/17 tires. I'm going to attempt to stuff 18x12 wheels with 315/30/18 tires on her.

    Specs on the wheels:

Shelby Series One rear wheels (made by Speedline)
    18"x12"
    5x4.75 (redrilling to 5x114.3) PCD
    +28mm offset
    24.4lbs

The first step (other than having the car) was to buy Brian Goodwin's NC Miata fender flare kit. With it he has run 18x10's and 295/30/18's, but I don't know if anyone has tried wider than that. I think I'm going into uncharted territory so this shall be interesting.

This will be my daily driver, grocery getter, and baby chariot for my son (notice the car seat). Therefore, I entitle this project "Stance With Somebody Who Loves Me" in honor of him. I'll be updating the thread of course as the project comes along.

Beginning pictures of the car and flares not installed (6.12.2011):

Two of the wheels (spares) came in today, so I decided to snap some quick pictures (6.17.2011):

Wheel redrill complete on the other four wheels I bought. (6.22.2011)

The four wheels I bought and had redrilled came in, but the condition is not as good as my first two spares pictured above. I don't feel like refinishing them so they are going up for sale. (6.29.11)

I finally got a chance to do some extensive test fitting today. 18x12 is not going to work in the front, and it's not due to possible fender issues. There are other clearance issues at play unfortunately. I think the best I'll be able to do is 18x10 in the front and 18x12 in the rear. (7.3.2011)

I still have not installed the flares, but I did get a chance to test fit the wheels today with tires. The wheels are now 18x10 et53 front and 18x12 et22 rear with 285/30/18 tires on all four corners. (9.17.2011)
