You're gonna wanna be careful with load rating. They start getting real low when you go as thin as 195 on 17's.

205/40/17 Falken 512's stretch better and more than any of the available 195/40/17's that you can get. It's mainly due to the fact that falken 512's aren't really 205 wide like they say.

        From here: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothrea...040577&page=13

        195/40 Conti's on a 7.5

205/40 on a 7.5 MORE stretch and clearance than the above

They make them. There just isn't much selection. You can go as small as 165/40/17...but they're basically useless with their load rating so low.

          Big pic...but 195/40/17 on 17x8 and 17x8.5: http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/828...staugushi7.jpg

            Wrong.

If you guys can't get any in the states, I can easily source you 195/40/17s.

            Readily Avaible tires:
            Continental SportContact 2 195/40 R17 81V XL
            Continental SportContact 3 195/40 R17 81V XL
            Hankook Ventus S1 evo K107 195/40 ZR17 81W XL
            Kumho ECSTA SPT KU31 195/40 R17 81W XL
            Pirelli P ZERO NERO 195/40 ZR17 81W XL
            Yokohama s.drive 195/40 R17 81W RF

That said, I'd still go with a 205/40 Falken (I'd recommend the FK452, stretches reasonably well on a 8x17 and looks good and is very good to drive, speaking from experience - I used to run a 205/40 FK452 on my 8x17 Azevs in the front of my old sedan)
