  • E60-to-E38 Brake Swap Part II: Adding Some Color!

Remember the E60-to-E38 brake swap we talked about on Friday? Well, it’s made its way back to the front page of the Fluid MotorUnion blog.

Last time we checked in on this project, the brakes had just finished their test fitment, and everything was looking to fit well. On top of looking good for fitment, the E60 M5 brake components also looked a little less-than-shiny, so all the brake components were put through the vibratory finisher to strip off their old paint and begin anew. Well, today’s post is all about our attempt to begin anew. For starters, we had Luci spray the caliper-related components in a classy yet stealthy gloss black. The color in the paint room is not conducive to photography, so it’s actually darker than it came out in the photos (and this is post-Photoshop, as well):

While this was happening, Tom painted the rotor hats in the same shade of classy black, after removing the rust that developed on the rotors during storage:

Apparently this old photographer was a bit slow this morning, as they managed to reassemble the entire brake setup and start the test driving before the afternoon started. The test driving is still continuing, so photos haven’t been taken of the new brake setup without wheels yet, but since there’s a parking brake issue that needs to be worked out, the wheels wil be off again soon, and pictures will be soon to follow. For the time being, though, we managed to snag some shots of Fluid MotorUnion’s latest out-of-the-ordinary swap through the wheels:
