Managing employee performance is one of the main tasks of an executive. This course aims to help executives develop performance agreements and learning goals for their employees. Participants will gain a better understanding of the performance management cycle, be able to initiate interviews with their staff, and acquire tools and strategies that will help their staff develop skills and work at the required level. The Performance Management Directive defines the responsibilities of chiefs of staff in managing a consistent, fair and rigorous approach to performance management across public administration. Performance management is an ongoing process that includes planning, development, coaching, feedback and evaluation of staff performance. The procedure must be in line with the requirements of the Official Languages Directive for the management of persons. Performance management is a tool to improve the performance and productivity of individuals, teams and organizations. In the public sector, it is increasingly important to respond to budgetary and budgetary pressures, increasing demands on public services and the need for greater transparency in reporting on the use of state resources. Federal organizations are working to create and maintain a high-performance culture to ensure the delivery of quality programs and services to Canadians. This online course, mandatory for all managers and superiors who are part of the core public administration and who are responsible for managing performance, verifies their roles and responsibilities at different levels and focuses on implementing best practices and techniques.

Participants learn the basic concepts of performance management and the time requirements associated with it, identify different behaviours, learn effective techniques and use them through hands-on exercises before taking an online certification test. In response to the current pandemic, PSPC has implemented new timelines for current talent, performance and learning activities, in line with the deadline proposed by the Treasury Secretaries` Council of Canada. The deadline for the 2019-2020 performance evaluation for eligible non-EX is June 30.
