Well, it's only taken 2 years, but I'm finally making progress on the volvo! I recently cut the springs (3 front and 2 rear) to get rid of the 4x4 stance but it just made me want to go even lower, no pics of what it looks like right now cuz it's nothing special to look at. Anywho, I got a killer deal on some Trans AM GTA wheels, 16x8, and it finally gave me the motivation to get this thing done proper. Since they're volvos nobody makes a bolt on coilover kit, so I'm going to be assembling my own. I'm currently getting all the pieces lined up and my adapters will be here tomorrow so I can finally test fit the wheels and get a sneak peak of what the end result will be. Here's the lowdown of what all is going into this project!
Wheels/Tires:
16x8 Trans AM GTA et16 front/et0 rear (refinished by yours truely with gold faces and fully polished lips)
195/45/16 Achilles ATR Sport tires
New Trans AM center caps
Adaptec 5x108 to 5x4.75 20mm hub/wheel centric adapters
Front:
Kaplhenke coilover sleeves/perches and stop rings
Kaplhenke low profile upper spring seats
Eibach 250lb 10" springs
Short Bilstein HD struts
Custom shortened strut tubes (2" taken out and powdercoated black)
IPD front poly bushing kit
Rear:

Eibach 200lb 8" springs with adjustable spring perches

IPD panhard bar bushings
custom adjustable torque rods (powdercoated black)
custom adjustable panhard bar (powdercoated black)

Holy shit, this thing is mint! I'm sub'd!!! Really love the headlight configuration on the volvo from this era, a lot better than those big square ones hahaOriginally posted by aLaFleur
I've decided the best way to deal with rust is to just embrace it.

Well just a small update from the weekend. I ran into a little snag when starting to refinish the wheels but I won't actually have time to work on this again until finals are over in two weeks so I figured I'd post what I worked on to see if anybody could give me some advice on what to do.
First off I got the adapters in, which was very exciting! But with the limited time I had, I wanted to get started on refinishing the wheels instead of testing what they would look like on the car.
So I started off by scuffing the whole surface with 400 grit and then applied the stripper. After a half hour nothing was really bubbling up and the lips weren't bubbling at all either which made me think that there wasn't actually a layer of clear coat on them anymore. After an hour I applied a second coat and let it sit for another hour and still nothing really changed. So I'm guessing that these were powdercoated and that's why it is not really budging with the stripper I'm using, which would also explain why there isn't clear coat on the lips either, somebody before me must have refinished them with polished lips at one point. Does anybody have any good advice for strippers for powdercoat? I was reading up on google and it seems like Rustoleum Aircraft Remover should do the trick but I won't be able to try it out until spring break.
right after applying the first coat
after an hour
and this is with the second layer on, it didn't remove anymore than this

well I got some more work done. These wheels have been taking forever, but it's definitely worth it! Hopefully now that I'm on spring break I can get them completed before class starts in a week! Anyways, pictures!
Got some goodies in the mail from Kaphlenke for my coilovers
And picked up some more goodies from IPD, poly bushings for some random suspension bits
And got back to work on the wheels, picked up some stronger stripper and it did the trick
starting to sand the lip
all done, did 320, 600, 1000, 1500, and then 2000 grit
Then I hit it with Heavy Metal Polish and the mothers PowerCone and here's where I could use some help from you guys. It seemed to work well except for that there are swirl scratch marks when you look closely and I don't know if it's from the PowerCone or from the polish I used or the fact that I skipped the bars and went straight to the polish, any thoughts? I've never done this before and really want to do it right.
